Fox's Fire Cider

Every year, just before the winter solstice and the onset of flu season, I prepare a fresh batch of Fire Cider. At the very first hint of illness—a scratchy throat, a sneeze that feels suspicious, anything—I start taking it. The key is consistency. Think of it the same way you would a prescribed antibiotic: you don’t take one pill and hope for the best; you take it regularly so your body stays ahead of the invading bacteria. I treat Fire Cider the same way, and as a result, any sickness that does show up tends to be mild and short-lived.

I’ve been making Fire Cider for 15 years. I originally learned about it from Jon Barron, a world-renowned nutraceutical researcher whose work I’ve followed for decades. Jon developed the foundation of this formula and once called it “the strongest formula of its kind in the world” for supporting the immune system. His ideas and formulations were far ahead of their time and have since gained widespread recognition. Jon has since retired and his original formula is proprietary, so I’ve continued making my own variation and sharing it with friends and family.


Ingredients

I don't make it exactly the way Jon Barron made it and I may change it a little from year to year.  This year December 2025 I went store and picked up:

  • 1 lb 4 oz Fresh Organic Ginger Root
  • 1 lb 7 oz Fresh Organic Garlic Bulb
  • 1 Fresh Purple Onion (10 oz)
  • 9 Serrano Peppers (6 oz)
  • 1 oz tinctures of:
    • Olive leaf ext (1:2) (15,000 mg mg herb weight equivalent)
    • Horseradish ext (1:5) (~28,000 mg herb weight equivalent)
    • Osha ext (1:1.5) (19,980 mg herb weight equivalent)
  • Wild Mountain Oregano P73 (.33 oz)
  • Colloidal Zinc (4 oz 240 ppm)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (16 oz)
  • d-limonene (.17 oz)

how's it made

Juice all the bulbs and peppers and mix it all together ---- ******nice***** and easy!

  • 12 fl oz ginger juice
  • 9 fl oz garlic juice
  • 5 fl oz purple onion juice
  • 4 fl oz serrano pepper juice (my son and I tried a drop --- *****hot***** and spicy!)

How to Use

Use 2-3 droppers of Fire Cider in 2 oz of juice as needed.

At the first sign of challenge, start taking Fire Cider. Take 3-10 droppers-worth every hour in juice. Tomato juice works great. (For supporting throat health, make sure you let it wash down the throat.) Keep taking Fire Cider until you finish the bottle.

For more substantial challenges, you will need to use more Fire Cider -- a bottle a day for the first 2-3 days, then 10 droppers a day for the next couple of weeks.


Take Fire Cider with other Natural Remedies

Take Fire Cider in conjunction with other natural immune system support formulas that include remedies such as Echinacea, Astragalus, Pau d'arco bark, Suma root, Elderberry and Cordyceps Mycelia.

Use Fire Cider as a foundational immune support, and pair it with the right over-the-counter aids depending on your symptoms. When you need an expectorant to help loosen and clear mucus, take it alongside Mucinex (guaifenesin). If your main issue is sinus congestion, combine it with Sudafed containing pseudoephedrine HCl. Note that pseudoephedrine products are kept behind the pharmacy counter, so you’ll need to ask the pharmacist—other OTC decongestants may not offer the same level of evidence for effectiveness.

Fire Cider isn’t meant to be a stand-alone cure for every situation. I treat it as the core of my regimen and adjust what I pair with it depending on whether I’m dealing with a cold, flu symptoms, or sinus issues. Used together, these approaches have consistently helped me move through seasonal bugs more quickly and comfortably.

Fresh Ginger Root Juice

Role: Anti-inflammatory, circulation enhancer, COX-2 modulator

Fresh Garlic bulb Juice

Fresh Onion Bulb Juice

Fresh Serrano Pepper Juice

HorseRadish Extract

Apple Cider Vinegar

Function: ACV acts as the solvent for extracting and preserving active compounds from other ingredients. How the Ingredients Work Together
